SUMMARY:A Magical Musical Mystery World Tour
DESCRIPTION:With Nick Wheeler\nBenefit for the 4th Year Dornach Fund \nThe world of music is as rich\, diverse\, and extraordinary as that of languages. Indeed\, anthropologists and ethnomusicologists have never identified a society that does not have some form of musical expression. Music sculpts our organs\, reflects our folk souls and shapes our identities. The evolution of musical traditions runs parallel to that of human consciousness. Many corners of the world have preserved certain musical footprints that are an integral part of our lineage. From the frenetic rhythms of Pacific drumming and Indonesian gamelan to the haunting harmonies of polyphonic folksong\, and from “found” environmental music to curious handmade instruments\, this presentation will showcase unique musical traditions from around the world and introduce under-represented cultures whose musical languages – scales\, harmonies\, tonality and rhythms – are rarely heard in the West\, providing a feast of sights\, sounds\, and soul nourishment. \nNick Wheeler is an Antipodean refugee who escaped from a country with five times as many sheep as people and eventually washed up on the shores of the Hudson River\, after a 25-year detour to China. After graduating from Victoria University of Wellington with a Masters of Music in Ethnomusicology\, he moved to China in 1990 to learn the language and conduct research into the music of minority nationalities that populate the border regions. Having abandoned dreams of making a fortune with a doctorate in music and instead making a living as a business executive\, Nick moved to New York with his family in 2015 so his children could attend Green Meadow Waldorf School. DESCRIPTION:A Lecture with Andrew Linnell\nThe three Masonic ideals of wisdom\, beauty\, and strength can be found in the Renaissance artists Leonardo\, Raphael\, and Michelangelo. Andrew Linnell will explore samples of their paintings in the light of anthroposophy. He will flesh this out with biographical insights from the works of Rudolf Steiner and from his own work. \nAndrew Linnell is author of the art history books The Hidden Heretic of the Renaissance: Leonardo and Why Leonardo Abandoned His Adoration. A graduate of the University of Michigan (MSE ’73)\, his professional career was in the computer industry where he was a CTO and VP. He studied art history with William Mann at Emerson College\, Sussex\, England. He is a member of the Anthroposophical Society since 1979 and past president of the Boston Branch. SUMMARY:Streams of Change: The Goetheanum and the World Society
DESCRIPTION:Claus-Peter Röh and Oliver Conradt\, Goetheanum Leadership \nClaus-Peter and Oliver will offer their experiences from the last few years of changes in leadership and collaborative leadership at the Goetheanum. They will talk about developments in the School for Spiritual Science and the Society as the 100-year mark approaches and there is increasing consciousness of being a true world society. There will be plenty of time for conversation. \nClaus-Peter Röh is one of the leaders for work with the First Class of the School for Spiritual Science at the Goetheanum. He was formerly leader of the Pedagogical Section. \nOliver Conradt is the leader for the Mathematics and Astronomy Section at the Goetheanum as well as working with Justus Wittich in managing the finances of the Society.  \nBoth Claus-Peter and Oliver serve as part of the Goetheanum Leadership\, which collaborates closely with the Executive Council of the General Anthroposophical Society. They are at Threefold along with forty-six representatives of the anthroposophical movement in North America\, who are gathering to reflect on the current state of the movement here.
