SUMMARY:Pedagogical Eurythmy Refresher Courses
DESCRIPTION:Week One: Monday – Friday\, August 11-15\, 2025 \nWeek Two: Monday – Friday\, August 18-22\, 2025 \nDuring the first week\, we’ll be working on the curriculum for Grades 6-8 with Susan Eggers\, a long-time eurythmist and a class teacher. With Lisa Profumo\, a class teacher at the Berkshire Waldorf School\, we’ll explore the general middle school curriculum and the work with adolescents. \nDuring the second week\, the focus will shift to high school students with Alexandra Spadea\, a eurythmist at the Rudolf Steiner School\, New York City. \nEach course will provide a review of pedagogical forms and their relevance for the period of childhood being studied\, as well as themes from the curriculum\, especially adaptable for use in eurythmy. We will also have time to share materials with one another and discuss topics of current concern and interest. \nESV is holding these pedagogical courses for the eurythmy students in their training\, but have found that it’s enriching for everyone to have practicing teachers join the ongoing training as Refresher courses. DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, August 20 -Sunday\, August 24 \nHow do colors move through the human being\, and how can we listen and become this movement? Please join us for an exploration into the world of color in tone eurythmy with Sea-Anna Vasilas\, speech eurythmy with Cameron MacArthur\, and painting with Keith Sagal. \nIn tone eurythmy\, or visible singing\, we are bringing the experience of music to visibility. We will discover how we can work with our whole self as an instrument to express the colors of the soul in the major and minor moods. Through eurythmy\, we become the harmony in music as it breathes dynamically within and around the human being. \nIn speech eurythmy\, we will work with the color gestures as they weave through poetry and language. SUMMARY:Tone Eurythmy Therapy Intensive Course with Jan Ranck\, a Guest Eurythmist
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, August 22\, through Sunday\, August 31 \nIn Rudolf Steiner’s lectures Eurythmy as Visible Music\, he repeatedly indicated that elements of this new art of movement could be effective as therapy. Inspired by the examples he provided\, eurythmist Lea van der Pals and medical doctor Margarete Kirchner-Bockholt worked together in the late 1950s to develop a sequence of exercises in connection with the diseases discussed by Rudolf Steiner and Ita Wegman in their book Extending Practical Medicine or Fundamentals of Therapy. \nThe exercises consist of tone eurythmy in its purest form and their effectiveness has been proven in practice. The 60 course hours qualify as AnthroMed Professional Development Hours (PDHs). \nWhile this professional course is for eurythmy therapists and medical doctors\, the insights it provides into the human being and the deeply transformative effect it has on the participant can benefit and enrich the life and work of artists\, teachers\, music\, art\, and physical therapists\, as well as the student or lay enthusiast. \nJan Ranck is the Founding Director of the Jerusalem Eurythmy Ensemble and the Jerusalem Academy of Eurythmy. The curriculum fosters insight into the eurythmic elements\, collaborative work among the students\, as well as a strong one-to-one relationship between teacher and student. \nOur fall semester curriculum commences with an exploration into the basic elements of speech eurythmy and an invigorating block of rod exercises\, surrounded by introductory courses in anthroposophy\, biodynamic gardening\, poetics\, and others that support the first steps in eurythmy. \nGraduates of the four-year full-time training go on to become teachers in Waldorf schools\, therapeutic eurythmy practitioners\, and stage artists. DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, September 13: 9am – 3pm  \nThis workshop is an introduction to the dye plants and dyeing projects that are characteristic of the end of summer. We will start the day harvesting flowers\, leaves\, and roots from our biodynamic dye plant garden. As we deepen our acquaintance and receive the beautiful colors of the plants\, we experience the healing energy of the plant world. \nBack at the Studio\, we will dye a variety of natural fiber items with our harvest\, for example: organic cotton bandanas\, habotai silk gift bags\, and wool gauze scarves. Using fresh Japanese indigo\, we will create blue as well as yellow\, orange\, and pink from flowers and roots. Participants will also be able to play with some shibori and eco-printing techniques to create unique fabric or scarves. \nAll materials are included in the registration fee: dyes from our garden – Japanese indigo\, madder\, yellow cosmos\, dyer’s coreopsis\, and marigold – an organic cotton napkin\, a silk gift bag\, a wool gauze scarf\, and linen fabric. \nEnrollment is limited\, and pre-registration is required.
