SUMMARY:The Karma of Covid: The Past\, Present\, and Future Karma of Corona Virus Disease-19
DESCRIPTION:With Harlan Gilbert\nThe first of three lecture/workshops. Please note: This workshop was previously scheduled for November 2\, 2021. \nThe current pandemic is having dramatic repercussions on nearly every individual living today. It constitutes a major intrusion into world and individual destiny. In three evening workshops\, we will explore the questions: Why a global pandemic\, why this one\, and why now? \nEach workshop will include a lecture\, group discussion\, and Q&A. \nIn this workshop\, we will explore three ways karma works\, each of which influences our experience of the present pandemic: \n\nPast karma shapes our experiences and limits our options.\nIn the present\, we exercise freedom of will\, providing the possibility of transforming old karma and of creating new karma.\nOur future destiny calls us to prepare for it.\n\nAlso in the series: Covid and Medical Technology (February 8) and What Is Covid Asking of Us? (February 15). \nHarlan Gilbert holds a Waldorf teaching certificate from Emerson College\, an MS in education from Sunbridge College\, and a PhD in transformative studies from the California Institute of Integral Studies. Since 2003\, he has taught mathematics\, computer science\, and philosophy at Green Meadow Waldorf School. He has published a book on child development and pedagogy as well as many articles considering technology and other themes from an anthroposophic point of view. \nAdmission\nLivestream Series Pass: $50 / $30 seniors and students. Includes live access to all three workshops in the series (via Zoom)\, plus recordings. Starting times: The workshops begin at 7:30pm EST (UTC-5:00). \nIn-Person Series Pass: $50 / $30 seniors and students. Includes admission to all three workshops at Threefold Auditorium plus access to recordings of all three workshops. \nIndividual Workshops (In-Person): $20 / $12 students and seniors. Includes admission to the workshop at Threefold Auditorium plus access to a recording of the workshop. \nIn-person tickets must be purchased in advance. Click here to order tickets. \nNo one will be turned away for lack of funds. To inquire about financial assistance\, email christa@threefold.org.

SUMMARY:Fiber Craft Studio: Spindle Spinning
DESCRIPTION:With Chris Marlow\n4 Saturdays\, 10:00am-4:00pm\nJanuary 29\, February 5\, March 19\, April 9 \nCreating your own hand-spun yarn can be a very satisfying activity on many levels. Gaining new skills\, and then attentively applying them while observing your materials and your process\, can lead to a transformative experience for both the fiber and the fiber artisan. \nIn this four-session course\, we will learn — by doing — how to prepare and spin wool fiber. Starting with a raw fleece from local Jacob sheep\, we will wash the wool\, card it\, and spin it using a drop spindle. In the final class\, we will bring color to our yarn using natural dyes from the Fiber Craft Studio’s dye garden. \nAll levels of experience are welcome. \nPlease note: This course was previously announced to start on January 22. \nFee: $400\, including materials. \nInformation\, and to register: Please visit this page.

SUMMARY:Pfeiffer Center Midwinter Intensive: Cosmic & Earthly Nutrition
DESCRIPTION:With Mac Mead\, Cynthia Hoven\, Harald Hoven\, Branko Furst\, and Sea-Anna Vasilas\nThis year’s Midwinter Agriculture Intensive will delve into the theme of cosmic and earthly nutrition in both the human being and the farm individuality. \nWe will explore the breakdown and up-building processes of digestion\, through the foundations of Rudolf Steiner’s Agriculture Course\, sense experience\, and the human encounter. The art and practice of eurythmy will weave throughout the program to provide an artistic lens through which we can actually experience spiritual content and truths. \nThrough our personal experiences\, group conversations\, presentations\, and shared meals set with cosmic and earthly nutrition in mind\, we hope to deepen our understanding of a kind of vital nutrition that can support the health of the earth\, our unique individual destinies in the world\, and our spiritual capacities. This long weekend is truly a unique educational and social opportunity to broaden and deepen your understanding of the role of biodynamics in the development of humanity and agriculture. \nInformation\, and to register: Visit this page. \nTHIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED.

SUMMARY:Social Threefolding\, Waldorf Education\, and Technology
DESCRIPTION:Presentation by Gary Lamb\nFor a time\, Ehrenfried Pfeiffer worked closely with Rudolf Steiner conducting research into the development of an ethical/moral form of etheric technology. At a certain point\, Steiner told Pfeiffer to discontinue his research until Social Threefolding and Waldorf education were more prevalent in the world\, and the materialistic idea that the heart is simply a pump was overcome. This presentation will focus on essential features and interconnections of Social Threefolding\, Waldorf education\, and ethical/moral technology in our current context of private capitalism in the United States. \nCopies of A Road to Sacred Creation will be available for purchase at the event for $35. \nRSVP by Friday\, December 3\, to Gary Lamb: glamb@thecenterforsocialresearch.org or 518-672-4465 x223. \nSuggested donation: $5 to $25. \nA complementary presentation will take place on Saturday morning at the Christian Community; click here for details. \nGary Lamb is a director of the Hawthorne Valley Center for Social Research and its Ethical Technology Initiative. He holds a degree in civil technology and mathematics\, and has worked in construction\, medical technology\, and manufacturing. Prior to editing A Road to Sacred Creation\, Gary co-edited (with Sarah Hearn) Steinerian Economics and authored books on Waldorf education and associative economics. Gary was the managing editor of The Threefold Review\, a journal based on Rudolf Steiner’s ideas about a threefold social organism.

SUMMARY:Calling It Like It Is: Intersectionality
DESCRIPTION:Facilitators: Joaquin Muñoz with Heather Scott \nThrough questions and answers\, small-group dialogue and activity\, and exploring ways to turn concepts into practice\, participants will have the opportunity to increase racial literacy\, engage in community\, and set personal goals for their teaching and/or administrative and board work. \nIn the words of Audre Lorde: “There is no such thing as a single-issue struggle because we do not live single-issue lives.” The goal of this workshop is to explore the complexity of our individual identities- or intersectionality- and how this informs our experiences as community members. This lens is useful when considering the relationships we form among ourselves as teachers\, caregivers\, parents\, mentors and board members. Participants will learn concepts related to social identities\, systems of privilege and power\, bias and tools for bringing balance to social contexts. \nAttendance at any 2020-21 or 2021-22 presentation of Calling It Like It Is: Uncovering and Dismantling Racism in the Waldorf Movement is a pre-requisite for attending this follow-up series. \nInformation\, and to register: Visit this page.

SUMMARY:Knitting a Pair of Socks
DESCRIPTION:With Chris Marlow\nPLEASE NOTE NEW DATES:November 21\, December 5 & 12\, 2:00-4:00pm \nAutumn is a wonderful time to knit a pair of socks – thinking of how cozy they will feel with your winter boots or for making a precious gift. \nIn three sessions we will knit the cuff\, turn the heel\, create the instep\, and complete the foot and toe for a pair of socks\, working both socks at the same time\, on separate needles. It will be necessary to know casting on and the knit and purl stitches. \nPlant-dyed worsted weight wool will be provided. Yarn is locally sourced from upstate NY farms and spinning mills\, and plant-dyed by hand at the Fiber Craft Studio. \nYou will need to have a set of size 6 or size 8 double pointed needles\, two sets would be ideal. We will have some to purchase. \nChris Marlow graduated from the first Applied Arts Cycle in 1999. She has a BFA from Rosemont College in PA. She was a handwork teacher at Green Meadow Waldorf School for 15 years and at the West Side Community School\, a charter school in NYC\, for two years. Chris became co-director at the studio in 2012. She is program director for the Applied Arts Program\, 12th Cycle and also leads the Sheep to Shawl course. \nInformation\, and to register: Visit this page.

SUMMARY:Imagining Rudolf Steiner's Ideas about Ancient Planetary Evolution as an Original Image of the Human Soul
DESCRIPTION:A Musical Recapitulation\nA Talk by Saeko Shibayama Cohn\nWhat does anthroposophy tell us about human psychology? How does its understanding of the human soul differ from mainstream psychology\, and why is such an approach relevant today? \nBased on a close reading of Rudolf Steiner’s The Inner Experiences of Evolution (1911)\, the present lecture spotlights the surprisingly universal “efficacy” of Steiner’s more esoteric work on angeological cosmology. The gestures\, feelings and moods of spiritual beings that characterize the ancient planetary conditions (Saturn\, Sun\, Moon) and the present Earth will be discussed. An attempt will be made to capture and enliven the textual analysis through a live performance of classical and contemporary music on the modern lyre. \nSaeko Shibayama Cohn holds a PhD in premodern Japanese literature from Columbia University. A Green Meadow parent\, she teaches Japanese in Green Meadow’s high school\, assists handwork at Green Meadow and the Otto Specht School\, and volunteers at the Fiber Craft Studio. \nSuggested donation: $12 / $7 students and seniors. \nInformation: Contact Melissa Lyons at threefoldbranch@gmail.com or 845-517-5386.

SUMMARY:Budget as a Reflection of Organizational Ethos
DESCRIPTION:Facilitators: Stephanie Rynas and Denese Giordano\nAn organization’s budget should reflect the values and priorities of that organization. The choice of policies\, procedures\, and practices in place for specific budget categories point towards the principles and values to which the organization aspires. By default\, therefore\, where a school spends its money demonstrates in concrete ways what is important to that school. This is especially apparent in compensation and in financial aid policies and procedures. In this workshop\, we will discuss pathways to aligning schools’ values and their deployment of funds. \nInformation\, and to register: Visit this page.

DESCRIPTION:Facilitators: Joaquin Muñoz with Aiyana Masla \nThrough questions and answers\, small-group dialogue and activity\, and exploring ways to turn concepts into practice\, participants will have the opportunity to increase racial literacy\, engage in community\, and set personal goals for their teaching and/or administrative and board work. \nSometimes the cultural norms in your place in your work or school environment may seem friendly and light\, but unknowingly be causing harm to those in marginalized or targeted groups. Learning to recognize and interrupt microagressions can help to create the inclusive environment we all strive for. \nAttendance at any 2020-21 or 2021-22 presentation of Calling It Like It Is: Uncovering and Dismantling Racism in the Waldorf Movement is a pre-requisite for attending this follow-up series. \nInformation\, and to register: Visit this page.
