SUMMARY:Polarity and Enhancement: The Way to Christ through Eurythmy with Jan Ranck
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, October 25\, 2024 7:30 PM\nSaturday\, October 26\, 2024 4:00 PM \nA Weekend Public Workshop for Professionals and Eurythmy Enthusiasts \nUpward – Downward (“Ascension” / “End Times”)\, Backward – Forward (“Conservative” / “Liberal”)\, Right – Left (“Republican” / “Democrat”) – no matter where we look we seem drawn into mutually exclusive interpretations of the direction society is headed and the polarities threaten to tear our world in two – if not twelve! How can eurythmy provide tools to help us find our way through these differences to a dynamic state of balance? How\, through experiencing and accepting contrast\, can we approach a higher unity? How can we learn to understand and thereby potentially will to love something at first totally foreign to us? \nThis workshop is a continuation of the themes touched upon in Jan’s previous visit “Rudolf Steiner’s Cultural Epoch Indications for Eurythmy as a Path to Tolerance” but is open to all with no prerequisites. Perhaps it is not by chance that\, without becoming political\, this course falls just days before the US elections. It may help us discern what can be achieved through positive action and accept with equanimity what cannot. \nFor more information\, visit the ESV web page. \nWorkshop Fee: $100 \nVisit the ESV web page to register. \nFor more information\, email info@eurythmy.org or call Eurythmy Spring Valley at 845-352-5020\, ext. 113.

SUMMARY:Frontier Eurythmy Part-time Training 2024-2025
DESCRIPTION:New Frontier Eurythmy Part-time Class Is Forming! \nFirst two-week training block begins in November 2024! \nA strong new Frontier class is forming to begin in November 2024. If you are interested in studying eurythmy as a profession\, this part-time program was developed to pursue studies toward a career in eurythmy\, while honoring other existing commitments. The Frontier training can also be taken as a stand-alone program\, with its unique approach to foundation studies through an immersion into eurythmy\, for the deepening of one’s life and inner development. \nOur part-time training is designed for people who are able to attend seven weeks of study sessions\, structured into shorter blocks during the year. Between each block\, students have independent study assignments to work on with a local eurythmist\, who serves as a mentor. The Frontier curriculum covers the first year of the eurythmy training over two years\, preparing the matriculating students to make a transition into the full-time program to complete their professional eurythmy studies. \nAs an art of the whole human being\, eurythmy has unique potential for bringing movement\, flexibility\, and balance into one’s inner and outer life. Whether you are interested in eurythmy as a career\, or are seeking personal enrichment through an intensive artistic experience\, the study of eurythmy can be a practical path to developing new levels of perception\, insight\, and capacity. \nUnlike the full-time training at Eurythmy Spring Valley\, we do not offer a new part-time course every year. If you have been thinking about beginning the eurythmy training\, this is your best opportunity to enroll in the new Frontier class. \nAdmission/fee: Contact us for tuition and schedule information \nFor more information on the course\, contact us with any questions at (845) 352-5020\, ext. 113\, or info@eurythmy.org

SUMMARY:The Age of Walt Whitman and the Moral Awakening of a Nation by Karl Fredrickson
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, November 11\, 7:30 pm \n“The greatest poet does not moralize—he knows the soul.” Walt Whitman \nOn January 1st\, 1863\, the Emancipation Proclamation came into effect\, and within two years more than four million enslaved people had gained their freedom. Yes\, the Civil War made this possible\, but its acceptance by the American people required something else: a gradual shift in consciousness that had been at work for more than two decades. This evening we will trace this shift through the rise of a genuine American literature—especially the poetry of Walt Whitman—and the stories of several individuals who\, though largely forgotten today\, stirred Americans to consider the true nature of the human soul and spirit. These include Laura Bridgman\, the first deaf-and-blind American to learn to communicate with others\, and Dorothea Dix\, who roamed across America bringing awareness to the plight—and innate dignity—of those among us who suffer from insanity. All movements toward equal rights since that time\, from women’s rights to the Civil Rights movement to the rights movements of recent decades\, are rooted in this search for the true image of the human being. \nWith Eurythmy by Eurythmy Spring Valley Ensemble: Walt Whitman\, Darest Thou Now O Soul \nTickets: $15 (regular)\, $9 (students and seniors). Tickets will be on sale at the door \nFor more information\, please email info@eurythmy.org \n

SUMMARY:A Shovel of Stars Overhead: Where to? What Next?
DESCRIPTION:November 16\, 8:00 pm – 9:15 pm \nA Shovel of Stars Overhead: Where to? What next?” embodies the longing\, questioning\, and bewilderment that belong to this moment in America\, while asking where\, from whom\, and how something greater can come to be. The program is inspired by the words and compositions of a diversity of artists who poignantly reflect the tensions of their own time. These include the beloved and influential Langston Hughes\, statesman Archibald MacLeish\, the modern lyric Denise Levertov\, and great American bard Walt Whitman. Levertov and other poets in the program orient us to the transcendent presence of the invisible in our midst. Evocative 20th-century American composer Henry Cowell sets the stage\, while contemporary composer Grigory Smirnov threads through the tensions to a quieter\, inner place. The rich harmonies of Sibelius and Chopin weave past into future\, and east into west\, leading us to the grandeur\, purpose\, and elemental urge in Antonin Dvorak’s final movement of the “Dumky” piano trio. Written not long before Dvorak’s maiden voyage to America\, the trio’s changing harmonies and rhythms seem to anticipate the dawning vistas of a new land\, and reflect something of the elusive and vast\, young and surging\, fighting but maturing American spirit. \nEurythmy:\nColleen Foglia\, Virginia Hermann\, Wei Rung\, Matej Rybka\, Barbara Schneider-Serio\, Sea-Anna Vasilas \nRecitation: Jennifer Kleinbach \nPiano: Grigory Smirnov \nViolin: Dominik Landowne \nCello: Christoph Grieder \nAdmission/Fee:  Tickets at the Door: $20 (regular)\, $12 (students and seniors) \nFor more information\, please email marta@eurythmy.org
