SUMMARY:Art of Clothing
DESCRIPTION:Empowering Individuality and Sustainability in Garment Making\nLed by Miho Suzuki\, Nao Motomatsu & Milena Bica-Shibata\nIn ten Saturday workshops from September to June\, we design and sew four garments using four natural fibers (cotton\, linen\, wool\, and silk) to create a complete outfit. Drafting simple patterns and sewing by hand gives us the opportunity to center ourselves and practice a meditative way of working. Over the course of the year we experience different sewing techniques\, plant dyeing\, and embroidery as we create our own unique fabric and garments. \nEach class meeting includes art activities\, bringing enlivening impulses to us individually and as a group. \nAll levels of experience\, from beginners to experienced fiber artisans\, are welcome. \nInformation\, and to enroll: Please visit this page.

SUMMARY:The Foundation Stone and Its Celestial Rhythms
DESCRIPTION:With Mary Stewart Adams\nOn Christmas Day\, 1923\, the south moon node—that place in the zodiac where the moon rises above the ecliptic each month—stood in the constellation of Aquarius. \nThis nodal point takes 18.7 years to make one full turn around the ecliptic. Thus\, on August 26 Saturn will come to this same place in Aquarius—right where the south moon node stood during the Christmas Conference—and\, as it does so\, the Sun will stand opposite\, in Leo\, at the position of the Moon’s north node. We on the earth will stand directly between these two celestial bodies. The axis that is thus formed\, from Saturn through the earth to the Sun\, will pass through the very place that the Moon’s Nodes were during the Christmas Conference—the first time this has occurred in the past century. \nMary Stewart Adams will work with us to come to a deeper appreciation not only of this cosmic event\, but also of the way it can bring us more deeply into the inner reality of the Foundation Stone verse. We will then move into an experience of eurythmy followed by a conversation on the Foundation Stone Meditation in relation to the theme. And this will prepare us for an evening with two presentations of the Foundation Stone in eurythmy. \n1:00-1:15pm Welcome and Introduction to the Day\n1:15-2:30pm A Talk by Mary Stewart Adams\n2:30-3:30pm Eurythmy\n3:30-3:45pm Break\n3:45-5:00pm Conversation Groups on the Foundation Stone \nAt 7:30pm\, the Eurythmy Spring Valley Ensemble will perform the Foundation in Stone in Eurythmy\, followed by brief presentations on the theme\, followed again by the Foundation Stone in Eurythmy.\n\nWorkshop admission: Free will donation ($25-$50 suggested). \nInformation\, and to preregister: Email Karl Fredrickson at kfredson@gmail.com. Preregistration is appreciated but not required.

SUMMARY:Harvesting Late-Summer Colors
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is an introduction to the dye plants and dyeing projects that are especially characteristic of the end of summer. \nWe will start the day harvesting flowers\, leaves\, and roots from our biodynamic dye plant garden. As we deepen our acquaintance with the plants and receive their beautiful colors\, we feel the healing energy of the plant world. \nBack at the Studio\, we will dye a variety of natural materials with our harvest: silk handkerchiefs with fresh Japanese indigo\, and organic cotton napkins\, lightweight wool scarves\, and linen squares with yellow\, orange\, and pink from flowers and roots. \nInformation\, and to register: Visit this page.

SUMMARY:"She Was Always There": Book Reading with Signe Eklund Schaefer
DESCRIPTION:“Who\, or perhaps what\, is she?” Signe Eklund Schaefer poses this question as she leads us into a heartfelt exploration of the great mystery that is Sophia. Her book does not take an academic or theological path but one that is personal and full of warmth and genuine interest in discovery that goes toward living reality\, well beyond mere names and fixed ideas. As Schaefer says\, she decided to “forego the idea of a straightforward narrative and instead interweave musings\, poems\, saved quotations\, and other assorted notes from my many years of living with questions about and to her.” \nSophia is rightly seen as the living\, moving being of universal wisdom and the archetypal feminine\, but Schaefer helps us to see her as more — as an expression of what humanity must rightfully become. \nInformation: Email administration@biographysocialart.org.

SUMMARY:Phenomenology: Teaching Science in the Middle School Grades
DESCRIPTION:Professional development for Waldorf grades 6-8 class and science teachers\, and homeschooling parents working with a Waldorf curriculum. \nThis anthroposophically based\, hands-on course with longtime science teacher Gary Banks explores the phenomena-based approach to teaching science used in Waldorf schools. The intention of this week is to deepen the teacher’s connection with science and explore how these exciting topics can be brought to the students in a way that develops joy and enthusiasm. \nGary Banks is a founding core faculty member of Sunbridge’s Waldorf High School Teacher Education program\, and high school faculty chair and high school math and science teacher at the Rudolf Steiner School of Ann Arbor\, where he has been on the faculty since 2007. He is a member of the School’s College of Teachers and a Board trustee. \nInformation\, and to register: Visit this page.

SUMMARY:Collaborative Leadership
DESCRIPTION:Personalized Strategies for Becoming a More Effective Member of Your Leadership Team\nProfessional development for decision-makers — including administrators\, directors\, board and committee members\, and faculty chairs — working in Waldorf schools or other workplace settings. This course is taught remotely in real-time. \nAre you consciously or unconsciously shaping your organizational and leadership culture? And do you have the skills necessary to recognize problems that might exist or arise within your workplace\, help your leadership team prioritize these issues\, and equip them (and yourself) with the tools to address them? \nIn this highly useful course\, our focus is on the practical work of being a leader and decision-maker. Through a process imbued with the anthroposophical understanding of the human being\, and successfully applied in organizations from Waldorf schools to multi-million dollar nationals\, Collaborative Leadership will help you learn how to improve your effectiveness as a member of your leadership team. \nJoachim Ziegler\, PhD\, has been working in the fields of organizational development and human resources development since 1994. A partner in MIRA Companions for Development\, an international consulting group\, Joachim’s current list of American and international clients encompasses the banking\, pharmaceutical\, retail\, and manufacturing sectors\, as well as anthroposophical institutions and Waldorf schools. \nJessica Heffernan Ziegler has been the executive director of Sunbridge Institute since 2008. Her professional focus on leadership skills\, governance issues\, and personnel development are utilized both in her executive director role and in her work as co-instructor of Sunbridge’s Collaborative Leadership course and related workshops; she also teaches Waldorf school administration in Sunbridge’s Waldorf Early Childhood Teacher Education program and previously taught in Sunbridge College’s Administration and Biography programs.\n\nInformation\, and to register: Visit this page.
