SUMMARY:Calling It Like It Is: Cultural Appropriation\, Appreciation\, and Assimilation
DESCRIPTION:Facilitators: Joaquin Muñoz with Meggan Gill \nThrough questions and answers\, small-group dialogue and activity\, and exploring ways to turn concepts into practice\, participants will have the opportunity to increase racial literacy\, engage in community\, and set personal goals for their teaching and/or administrative and board work. \nThe goal of this workshop is to explore how\, as educators\, we can continue to offer children diversity through our curriculum\, festivals and heritage months while steering away from the pitfalls of tokenization or bringing a “tourist curriculum” in the name of multiculturalism. Participants will gain literacy in cultural competency\, consider place-based education as a tool and explore some “best practices” for addressing your institutional goals. \nAttendance at any 2020-21 or 2021-22 presentation of Calling It Like It Is: Uncovering and Dismantling Racism in the Waldorf Movement is a pre-requisite for attending this follow-up series. \nInformation\, and to register: Visit this page.

SUMMARY:A Question Of Destiny: The Remarkable Civil War Friendship of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass
DESCRIPTION:A talk by Karl Fredrickson\nFrederick Douglass had been one of Lincoln’s harshest critics during the Civil War. Finally\, in 1863\, he boarded a train in Rochester and headed down to Washington\, hoping to confront the President directly. What ensued was a surprising and remarkable friendship\, one that would play an important role in bringing the nation forward toward its “New Birth of Freedom.” We will look at the life stories of these two men\, both of whom were truly “self-made\,” rising from humble origins\, and how they crossed the racial divide to help the nation chart a new direction\, one that is in harmony with its true destiny. \nSuggested donation: $12 / $7 students and seniors. \nInformation: Contact Melissa Lyons at 845-517-5386 or threefoldbranch@gmail.com.

DESCRIPTION:Come enjoy the manifold flavors of India at Threefold Café as we embark on a cooking collaboration between Café chef Jennifer Litwin and ESV alumna Vijayta Singuluri\, whom some will know as the “Corona Chef.” Celebrate being part of this community\, with a delightful meal and bid Vijayta farewell (we promise the spices will not make you teary) before she leaves for India at the end of this month. \nWho is Vijayta? I graduated from Eurythmy Spring Valley in 2020. I am now on my way to India to teach eurythmy in the Waldorf school in the city of Hyderabad. My story here in the community started at the same time that the Threefold Café had reopened and had begun theirs. It was my first place of work. With my multicultural class at ESV\, the idea of cooking an Indian meal together had already been planted\, and so\, it is only natural that it comes to fruition here at the Café – a perfect circle\, from a foodie . . . *ahem* eurythmist’s perspective! \nSuggested Donation: $25 per person for the feast & non-alcoholic drinks. Net proceeds will benefit Threefold Educational Foundation & Eurythmy Spring Valley. \nInformation: Contact Threefold Café at 845-352-3130 or cafe@threefold.org.

SUMMARY:Whole-Class Enrichment: Rethinking the Elements of a Balanced Day
DESCRIPTION:A Practical Course for Class Teachers\, and Teachers Who Want to Become Their School’s “Enrichment Teacher”\nThis course will guide participants to personal mastery of a broad repertoire of methods for strengthening student capacities. Students will return to their schools ready to provide an innovative and effective whole-class\, or even whole-school\, approach. The ultimate goal is to prepare attendees to inspire and support a school-wide culture in which all teachers know the reasons for and practicalities of developmental activities for the whole class; to learn the activities themselves and then to help other teachers become inspired. \nThe program includes two in-person sessions (October 22-24\, 2021\, and April 1-3\, 2022) at Green Meadow Waldorf School\, plus an online “check-in” session in January 2022. \nInformation: Click here (website) and here (PDF) for detailed descriptions of the program. Click here to register. For more information\, email Erin McNamara at erin@healingeducation.org.
