DESCRIPTION:Sunbridge Institute’s Summer Series is a longstanding tradition within the Waldorf community. For decades\, Waldorf teachers and leaders from across North America and beyond have chosen our summertime weeklong professional development courses to help them prepare for their upcoming year; other individuals register for our weeklong introductory courses to learn more about Waldorf education and perhaps embark on a Waldorf career of their own. \nIn 2023\, we are pleased to be offering Approaching Grades 1-8 and Collaborative Leadership in real-time\, virtual classrooms. SUMMARY:The Dynamics of Play
DESCRIPTION:Reexamining and Recommitting to the Essential Role of Play in Early Childhood Education in the Aftermath of Covid-19\nAn in-person\, post-graduate deepening for trained\, currently practicing Waldorf early childhood educators and grades 1 and 2 teachers. \nConversations on the value of play in early childhood education have recently resurfaced\, along with growing concern over the negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on all areas of child development. In this course\, we will re-examine and recommit to the essential role of play in early childhood education\, helping to inspire you to create therapeutic environments that foster healthy play. \nFacilitators \nLisa Miccio\, lead\, joined Acorn Waldorf School this past September as the Neighboring Tree Project (NTP) Specialist\, overseeing a grant-funded AWS initiative that aims to create community partnerships with local early childhood educators\, schools\, and centers; at the School\, she also provides professional development training and mentoring of teachers new to nature-based early childhood education.  \nSondi Eugene is an early childhood teacher at the Waldorf School of Atlanta\, where she has been on the faculty since 2000. Raised in rural New Jersey\, Sondi moved to Atlanta in 1994 and received her certificate in early childhood education from Sunbridge College 10 years later. \nLynn St. Pierre is a certified teacher trainer in the developmental movement for early childhood created by Wilma Ellersiek and Spacial Dynamics®. Through a process imbued with the anthroposophical understanding of the human being\, and successfully applied in organizations from Waldorf schools to multi-million dollar nationals\, Collaborative Leadership will help you learn how to improve your effectiveness as a member of your leadership team. \nJoachim Ziegler\, PhD\, has been working in the fields of organizational development and human resources development since 1994. A partner in MIRA Companions for Development\, an international consulting group\, Joachim’s current list of American and international clients encompasses the banking\, pharmaceutical\, retail\, and manufacturing sectors\, as well as anthroposophical institutions and Waldorf schools. \nJessica Heffernan Ziegler has been the executive director of Sunbridge Institute since 2008. DESCRIPTION:Professional development for Waldorf grades 6-8 class and science teachers\, and homeschooling parents working with a Waldorf curriculum. \nThis anthroposophically based\, hands-on course with longtime science teacher Gary Banks explores the phenomena-based approach to teaching science used in Waldorf schools. The intention of this week is to deepen the teacher’s connection with science and explore how these exciting topics can be brought to the students in a way that develops joy and enthusiasm.   \nGary Banks is a founding core faculty member of Sunbridge’s Waldorf High School Teacher Education program\, and high school faculty chair and high school math and science teacher at the Rudolf Steiner School of Ann Arbor\, where he has been on the faculty since 2007.
