SUMMARY:Rigid Heddle Weaving Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Three sessions: Sunday\, July 12; Saturday\, July 18; and Sunday\, July 19 \n10:00 am – 3:00 pm \nFor most of human history\, every piece of cloth began with someone sitting down at a loom. Weaving was practical\, but it was also meditative\, communal\, a way of marking time through making. \nOver three sessions\, you’ll learn to weave on a 16-inch rigid heddle loom. We’ll direct-warp the loom together\, then explore how color\, texture\, and yarn weight talk to each other as the cloth grows row by row. Each piece that emerges will be entirely your own: a record of your choices\, your instincts\, your moving hands. \nBeginners are very welcome\, as is anyone who has woven before and wants to go deeper. The setting is relaxed and communal with plenty of room to follow your own creative instincts. DESCRIPTION:Saturdays from 10:00 am to 4:00pm on September 20\, October 25\, November 22\, December 13\, January 17\, February 14\, March 14\, April 18\, May 23\, and June 6. \nIn this course\, we will design and sew three garments using the natural fibers of cotton\, linen\, and wool\, as well as making a shawl or scarf using silk\, to create a complete outfit. Drafting simple patterns and sewing by hand gives us the opportunity to center ourselves and practice a meditative way of working. SUMMARY:Dyeing a Rainbow: Silk Veil Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, May 31\, 2pm – 5pm \nJoin us in making an extra large size rainbow silk veil learning how to over-dye with three kinds of plant colors. You will receive healing energy from the color of nature and be surprised by the wonder of over-dye magic. \nIn this workshop\, participants will enjoy colors by mixing the three primary colors on paper first using pastel to understand how rainbow colors are created and how we overdye on silk. We will prepare a natural indigo vat\, along with two additional dye pots—red (Eastern brazilwood) and yellow (Osage orange)—and use them to dye silk. Participants will begin by dyeing a sample strip\, then create their own oversized silk veil. SUMMARY:Sheep to Yarn: Spindle Spinning
DESCRIPTION:Sunday: January 18\, 25; February 1\, February 15\, 2026 \n1:00pm – 5:00pm \nCome to the Fiber Craft Studio to experience the transformation of natural fibers. Spindles are among the earliest human tools\, and as woven textiles developed\, spinning became an integral part of the rhythm of life for thousands of years. While it is no longer required\, spindle spinning remains an archetypal activity\, adding creativity to our knitting\, crochet\, and weaving projects. It is meditative\, requires focus\, and brings great satisfaction. SUMMARY:Art of Clothing 2025-26
DESCRIPTION:Saturdays from 10:00 am to 4:00pm on September 20\, October 25\, November 22\, December 13\, January 17\, February 14\, March 14\, April 18\, May 23\, and June 6. \nIn this course\, we will design and sew three garments using the natural fibers of cotton\, linen\, and wool\, as well as making a shawl or scarf using silk\, to create a complete outfit. Drafting simple patterns and sewing by hand gives us the opportunity to center ourselves and practice a meditative way of working.
