In this course, we will design and sew three garments using the natural fibers of cotton, linen, and wool, as well as making a shawl or scarf using silk, to create a complete outfit. Drafting simple patterns and sewing by hand gives us the opportunity to center ourselves and practice a meditative way of working. Over the course of the year, we experience different sewing techniques, plant dyeing, embroidery, and other artistic techniques as we create our own unique fabric and garments.
Each class meeting includes artistic activities that bring enlivening impulses to us individually and as a group.
All levels of experience, from beginners to experienced fiber artisans, are welcome.
Class days run from 10:00am to 4:00pm. The 2024-25 course will meet on September 28, October 26, November 23, December 14, January 25, February 22, March 22, April 19, May 24, and June 7.
Tuition: $1,200, including all materials. Payment plans are available.
