Plant Dyeing Workshop

Loading Events

Saturday, September 13: 9am – 3pm

This workshop is an introduction to the dye plants and dyeing projects that are characteristic of the end of summer. We will start the day harvesting flowers, leaves, and roots from our biodynamic dye plant garden. As we deepen our acquaintance and receive the beautiful colors of the plants, we experience the healing energy of the plant world.

Back at the Studio, we will dye a variety of natural fiber items with our harvest, for example: organic cotton bandanas, habotai silk gift bags, and wool gauze scarves. Using fresh Japanese indigo, we will create blue as well as yellow, orange, and pink from flowers and roots. Participants will also be able to play with some shibori and eco-printing techniques to create unique fabric or scarves.

All materials are included in the registration fee: dyes from our garden – Japanese indigo, madder, yellow cosmos, dyer’s coreopsis, and marigold – an organic cotton napkin, a silk gift bag, a wool gauze scarf, and linen fabric.

Enrollment is limited, and pre-registration is required. Ages 16 and older.

Admission: $120
