Event Series: Sheep to Shawl

Eight Saturdays: Oct. 3, Nov. 7, Dec. 12, Jan. 16, Feb. 6, Mar.13, Apr. 10, May 29
10 am – 4 pm

The spinning of thread and yarn was a key factor in the advancement of civilization, and spindles were one of the earliest human tools. The development of knotted and woven textiles followed, and spinning became part of the rhythm of life for many thousands of years.

Spinning remains an archetypal activity; it adds creativity to our knitting, crochet, and weaving projects. Spinning is meditative, requires focus, and brings great satisfaction.

This year’s course will take place on one Saturday a month, over eight months. We will wash and card raw wool, learn how to spin on a spindle, and practice techniques for controlling the quality of the yarn. We will have a chance to dye some of our wool and create a small knitted or crocheted project.

Admission: $1,050 for 8 classes
