One year after the burning of the Goetheanum, Rudolf Steiner was asked, “Why do you keep speaking of the Goetheanum? We have no Goetheanum.” “No,” he replied. “The Goetheanum exists. It stands before our spiritual eyes.” We will consider the First Goetheanum from its inception, construction, spiritual significance, and the fateful New Year’s Eve of 1922 when it was consumed by fire.
